A PPI Symposium held September 26, 1990 at The George Washington University. The discussion centered on Professor Shelby Steele's notion that a new "politics of difference" has developed in which racial minorities, members of ethnic groups, and women compete for political power by emphasizing their differences from -- and victimization by -- mainstream society.
